4 Wall Sconces Wired and Installed in a Home Media Room

Media rooms are a little different from the rest of the house. The lighting has to work harder - it needs to set a mood, stay out of the way of the screen, and still be functional enough that you're not fumbling around in the dark. A bare overhead light just doesn't cut it in a space like this.

We wired and installed 4 wall sconces throughout this media room - 2 flanking the projection screen and 2 mounted above the floating shelves on the opposite wall. Each fixture had to be positioned carefully so the light would complement the room without washing out the screen or creating glare in the wrong spots. That kind of placement matters more than most people realize.

The two sconces above the shelves are a matte black and brass style that pairs really well with the warm wood tones of the floating shelves and butcher block countertop below. The two flanking the screen are slim vertical fixtures with a brass and glass look - they add just enough ambient glow on either side without competing with what's on screen. Getting the mix right between those two fixture styles, in the same room, takes some thought.
